Living in a better future has always been a dream of the humankind. As a result of our continuous efforts to enrich our lives, we are now enjoying the benefits of the civilization and living in an affluent society. Also we are dreaming of a more glorious future.
However, in the process of development, we have exploited energy sources and destroyed nature, causing a fatal consequence called global warming which is threatening the survival of the humankind. The Doomsday Clock which was introduced to warn the catastrophic destruction by the nuclear war during the Cold War era has moved forward by two minutes due to global warming and stands at 5 minutes to midnight now. Five minutes to midnight. We can no longer neglect this global threat.
To this end, major cities around the world, which are the main culprits of global warming, are trying to fulfill their responsibilities. On May 18, 2009, 80 leading cities around the world will meet in Seoul to discuss climate concerns under the theme of ¡¸Cities¢¥Achievements and Challenges in the Fight against Climate Change¡¹ The meeting will review the fundamental spirit of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, which was established to address global warming.
